Daily Angel Oracle Card: St. Dymphna ~ Emotions, from the Saints and Angels Oracle Card deck, by Doreen Virtue, Ph.D
St Dymphna ~ Emotions: “The answer to your question involves emotions – either yours or those of the person you are inquiring about. This is also a message for you to pay closer attention to your emotions. It is safe for you to admit your true feelings to yourself. St.Dymphna can help you find solutions to any emotional upsets. She is a loving saint who specializes in helping you achieve emotional and mental health. The lantern that she carries helps you better see where you are going and assists you in avoiding obstacles on your path.
Allow St. Dymphna to illuminate your journey. If you notice any unwanted patterns in your behaviour, or if you are about to sabotage yourself, call upon this powerful saint for immediate assistance. This card is also a message for you to trust your feelings, especially as they guide you to make positive changes. Your feelings are the voice of Heaven speaking through you, and you have a right to them, even if others disagree with them. You can also release any upsetting emotions to God, St. Dymphna, and the angels for healing and guidance.
St. Dymphna, (pronounced: Dim-fnah) was a Celtic girl who fled from her homeland after her widowed father made advances toward her in his bereavement. She and St. Gerebernus traveled to Antwerp, where they founded an oratory. Eventually Dymphna’s father found her, and when she rejected his inappropriate affections, he murdered both her and Gerebernus. Dymphna’s relics and the location of her death are said to heal epilepsy, insanity, nervous conditions, and possessions. Today, a mental health facility stands on the place in Gheel (near Antwerp) where Dymphna passed away. She is the patron Saint of mental health and mental health workers, and you can call upon her to help you, a loved one, or a client with emotional and mental upsets.”*

This is a fascinating message for me, on so many levels. We are being called yet again to listen to that amazing GPS system we have built right in; our emotions, which will guide us safely out of danger…. if we choose to listen to the big red flags it waves at us regularly!! It also gives us hope, for we have another benevolent Saint to call upon to help us to process our emotions and lead us out of dangerous or self-destructive patterns. Often, we are our own worst enemies when we refuse to listen to our hearts, we must suffer the consequences. Now we can ask St. Dymphna for help.
Also, this card is interesting with the synchronicity of the news that is happening in the world right now. High profile men, including Jian Ghomeshi and Bill Cosby, are being held accountable for their alleged inappropriate actions towards women. It takes a lot of courage as a woman to come forward and admit that you have been treated disrespectfully by a man, especially when in the past, the woman herself would often be held responsible for soliciting the reaction of the man towards her. Finally, times are changing. I don’t know enough to pass judgement either way on these men or their alleged actions, but I know that the attitude towards equality and respect is slowly balancing.
If you share any past traumas and memories which may be holding you back; blocking you from your full potential, ask St. Dymphna to assist you in finally releasing these bonds and moving forward. It is time.
