Daily Angel Oracle Card: Bast ~ Play, from the Goddess Oracle, by Amy Sophia Marashinsky and Hrana Janto
Bast ~ Play:
“I swirl and twirl
I hide and seek
romping and ranging
funning and frolicking
for self-amusement are endless
and the pleasure
that it gives me
makes me purr
Life’s challenges never stop me
for I know how to whole myself
Mythology: In Egypt, Bast (pronounced bahst), the cat-headed Goddess, adn Sekhmet, the loin-headed Goddess, represented two powerful aspects of the sun: the life-giving, pleasurable aspect and the burning, destroying aspect. Bast was worshipped at Bubastis, where vast celebrations were held. She ruled pleasure, joy, music, dance, health and healing, the moon, and of course, cats.
Meaning Of The Card: “Bast bats at you with her paw to urge you to come and play with her. It is time to divert yourself with something that is amusing, fun and totally recreational. Has play been a low priority for you? Do you know how to play? what does play mean to you? Perhaps you have been working so hard that you have forgotten to give yourself a play break. Bast tells you the way to nurture wholeness lies in engaging in play. It is time to discover the ways you are able to play and do it!”*

Bast is here to insist that we lighten up and have some fun! We get so serious, even when we are seeking joy and fulfillment! Now it’s time to let loose a little and embrace the lighter side of life. Dance, sing, get silly! Doing something fun physically is a great way of moving old energies and infusing your physical body with higher vibrations. Laughter is a huge immune booster, giving us a natural lift that can last for hours!
Think of kittens, and how focused they are on play! They will spend hours stalking, jumping, batting and playing; even while falling off stuff and bending themselves in hilarious contortions to get their prey! Embody this focused fun ~ find a way to feel like a happy and playful kitten. And a little mischief can’t hurt either!
Put on your favourite tunes and sing and dance your way around your house. Spend some time playing with a child or pet in your life, get down to their level and really spend some quality time; build a fort and eat chocolate chip cookies, make a new toy for your pet and take the time to play with them. Watch a funny movie, or read a comical book. Paint a silly picture. Play dress up with your kids… (or your partner if you are up for it, I’m sure they would be thrilled!!)
Find your fun side. You know what makes you laugh. Maybe you have a friend who always seems like so much fun. Give them a call and set up a time to meet. Or better yet, decide to be that friend today and lighten up someone elses world.
Take time to play.
