Daily Angel Oracle Card: Temperance, from the Tarot Of The Hidden Realm, by Julia Jeffrey and Barbara Moore

Temperance: “How the water flows is how the earth is shaped. This powerful rushing water pushes and pulls at her feet and joggles the rocks under her, but she never falters. Water may shape the earth, but it is not shaking her. Her every movement is under her command. She maintains her position without thinking, focused entirely on the cups in her hands and water that flows back and forth between them in an act that is something like alchemy or magic. But for her, it seems merely a natural extension of her own body No, water does not control her, rather, she is able to control it.

Her favored familiars, the dragonflies, ride the air, wings catching the soft sunlight and giving it back in bright coloured flashes. Even though she does not look at them, she knows they are there and can feel he energy they lend her. They are happy to bestow their gifts of emotional maturity and spiritual harmony on one who treasures them so much.

She does treasure their gifts and works continually to become more skilled with them. She is a quiet creature, a virtue she has honed of necessity. Only in silence can she hear and feel all that goes on around her. From the soles of her soft feet to the top of her disciplined mind, she has worked to heighten her sensitivity. She moves through life like a dancer, with elegance and ease, always saying the right words and doing the right things. She makes it look easy, but behind her small smile, she keeps her hard work to herself.”

Divinatory Meaning: “They say that a mark of any true professional is they make whatever they do look easy. Moving easily and beautifully through life does not happen by accident. It is a choice and a discipline. Life brings all sorts of challenges the environment of your life changes all the time. Maintaining balance in a chaotic world is subtler than mixing equal parts of work, play and sleep. When Temperance shows up in a reading, you know the situation has powerful elements that could potentially throw you off course, but that you can, with some effort, resist being controlled by outside influences. It means, though, that you must retain control of yourself. Emotional and spiritual maturity are necessary to understand all the forces at work and to make the best choices in order to achieve the results you desire.”*

Water is the element of emotions and this card is about not getting swept up in our emotions. We may be faced with crisis or chaos. We may have pain or heartbreak to deal with. We may be struggling to make ends meet, or find our life partner. Or we may have drama playing out around us through family, friends or co-workers. We may be empaths and take on the emotions of others, having trouble sorting out what is ours and what belongs to someone else…

Temperance is asking us to detach from the drama and get clear on our intentions. She is asking us to focus our attention on what we desire to manifest, and let the rest go. Let go of the fear, the worry, the scattered attention. Look to the work that needs to be done in order to manifest your dreams.

What is it that you really wish to create? What does your heart whisper to you? That is where your attention must stay, no matter the raging river or storm going on around you.
