Kenaz: “The way forward is illuminated. Be the change you wish to see. Do not just talk – embody your message to the world. No one can know everything, so learn from trusted others or elders. By illuminating our shadows, we understand ourselves and our behaviors more deeply. “
‘The way of the craftsman
Runs his hands over the wood and knows
What is already within it,
As the creation floats to the surface,
Lit from within…
The knowledge of both appears,
Obvious for those that would see.
I am Kenaz.’
“In the days of the Vikings, there were no formal schools, and the ability to read and write was rare. Therefore, skills were passed from one person to another by example, over an extended period of time, much life today’s trade apprenticeships. If you were a boat builder, for instance, you taught others boat building, step by step. If you were a blacksmith, those who wanted to learn from you would start by watching you, then move on to building and stoking the fire, then to finding the metal and, finally by practicing transforming the metal into things of beauty and use.
The teacher engaged not only to show the student the processes of their craft, but also to reveal the strengths and weaknesses in the student’s ‘way’, and this, it was believed, increased the student’s artistry and craft. This kind of magic – the alchemy among the teacher, the student and that which was being created – is the illumination a the heart of Kenaz.
Kenaz (pronounced, ‘Kane-awze’) is both the torch and the fire of kinship (‘ken-ship’). It is the force that shows us the right way forward for us and reveals to us the knowledge we need to be at our best. The Vikings would often turn to elders or others who had experience in a process or subject and seek their cooperation. Then those with the knowledge would share it in formal councils convened to solve whatever issue was at hand.”
Kenaz as Challenger: “Someone around you may be jealous of you, worrying that you will surpass them in some way. Remember, great teachers want their students to surpass them. Alternatively, at this time, you may be unwilling to admit to or examine your own shadows. The Vikings understood that to think we exist in perfection, that we live entirely in the light, with no darkness, is to be in the grip of delusion.”

As you step into your power, and become comfortable sharing the gift of your true essence, you become an example and an inspiration to others to do the same. It is only by doing that you can show others that it really is not that scary to be yourself, to stand in your truth and to release judgment, fear and struggle. By taking slow and steady action towards that which you wish to create, you allow others to find their strength, courage and commitment to their own dreams.
If sharing is not coming naturally to you, ask yourself why that is. Are you fearful of the opinions or judgement of others? Or are you still holding on to an old, outmoded belief system around lack mentality, thinking that there may not be enough to go around? Are you worried that others may move forward faster than you, or that they may take opportunities that were meant for you? In reverse, maybe there is someone in your life who is feeling threatened by your new found sovereignty. This does not mean that you should shrink to fit their fears. Keep doing what you are doing with faith and trust that what is yours is coming to you, and what is theirs will come to them too.
There is always more than enough to go around. The Universe is ever abundant.
