Dagaz: “Know that you are protected. Only positive energy flows your way. Expressing daily gratitude will create profound change. Have hope! Happiness is within your grasp – the time for sorrow is over. Grief is necessary, but soon it will diminish. Seek balance in all things.”

“Dagaz, (pronounced, ‘daa-gahz’) is a rune in the Elder Futark that says good things have arrived or are coming soon. It is the rune of the miracle of the dawn, the coming of the day, the first rays of sunlight after a frightening storm. It is the awakening of hope when it seemed that hope was gone. It is the first gentle happiness after a period of grieving, the understanding that we can choose pleasure after a period of sacrifice. It is the relief after much hard work.

Dagaz is a protective force too. It enhances happiness by warding off anything that may challenge that happy state. It is useful in dispelling depression, inducing hope and bringing forth a balanced mind and body. Dagaz was painted in yellow on the doorways of halls, where happy events were held, ensuring not only that good times would be had, but that the people within would be protected from harm wile enjoying themselves.”

As Challenger: “Insomnia or restless sleep. Depression. Hopelessness and victim mentality. Stuck in the old ways of thinking. Refusing to be grateful for simple things. Refusing to be happy because we fear something may go wrong.”

Hmmm, I’m thinking I need this rune. I could paint it in yellow on my doorways. Yes, why not do that? I love the idea of a protective force, enhancing happiness and warding off what may challenge that happiness for me. I love the idea of awakening hope where once hope seemed beyond reach. I wan to choose pleasure after a period of stress, exhaustion and overwhelm. Bring it on.

It’s too easy to slide into victim mentality; to feel like life is happening ‘to’ us, that we have no say in it. To become unwilling participants in a game where the odds feel stacked against us. It’s easy to become a martyr, believing that we must sacrifice our dreams to create happiness for anyone and everyone in our lives despite ourselves.

We need to let that mentality go. And find a way to create something better. Stronger. More suited to the reality we desire to create.

What else is possible here?

There is no such thing as coincidence. Only synchronicity. There is no such thing as jinxing ourselves. It is safe to dream big and act on it. All those limiting belief systems just hold us back from what is ours, not the other way round. And yes, you deserve to be happy.

Expect a turn of events. Expect happiness. Intend it. Find it and hold onto it. Radiate it out into the world.
