Midnight: “The most magical hour of all”

T”he dark it envelops me

The witching hour awaits

True magic and enchantment

And spells that change fates.”

“The middle of the night – midnight – is the hour in which it is believed that ghosts, witches, ghouls and magic are most likely to be active. Transition times, such as noon, the time between tides or even dark moon, are traditionally powerful times for magical transformation.

In some Christian traditions, the witching hour is seen as 3am because it is the opposite to the time that Jesus is said to have died, at 3pm, but there is some consensus that midnight is the time of greatest magic, particularly around Halloween. As soon as the clock strikes midnight on Halloween it is said that the spirits flow forward through the veil and, if benevolent, bring positive messages. If not so benevolent they are mischievous and play tricks at best or at worst, cause havoc.

Allow yourself to relax into the benevolent darkness of midnight. You may feel this is your darkest hour but know that the light will return again. The dawn always follows the darkest night. Know too that it is important to recognize that we all have darkness within us – just as we have light – and this is not something to hide from.”*

This is a recurring theme of late; complete acceptance… including our dark, or shadow side. That which we hide will hold us back. When we embrace every aspect of ourselves, we allow healing into wholeness. Those parts that you keep hidden are valid parts of you; your fears, your doubts, your deepest feelings, your perceived flaws. You may just find that they are much darker looking when they are hidden than they really are. That when brought out into the light, they shine right along with the rest of you.

We are lead to believe that in order to be of higher consciousness, we must strive for perfection. We must eat perfectly, sleep deeply, breathe deeply, exercise regularly, forgive and accept everyone and everything. Put everyone else first. Endlessly work on ourselves. Reject that which is human.

Yet what if the true raising in consciousness is the complete acceptance of the human experience and finding your joy in spite of it all. In spite of the imperfections, the let downs, the tediousness of it all. What if it is so much simpler than we are lead to believe, and that we all possess everything we need, the perceived good along with the perceived bad, to balance it all out?

Unconditional love is accepting that you can’t be vibrating at full peak intensity every single moment of every single day. You are going to have bad days where stuff does not go as planned. You are going to eat something that is not good for you. You are going to stay inside all day and not meditate god forbid! You are going to snap at someone you love and criticize yourself in the mirror.

And then you are going to stand back and laugh at yourself for being so darned… human!! And you are going to get yourself up. And brush yourself off. And see the magic again.

And smile again.

And heal some more.

And vibrate a little higher and higher.

It’s quite the process!

Namaste
