Daily Angel Oracle Card: Two Of Pentacles, from the Tarot Apokalypsis Oracle, by Erik C. Dunne and Kim Huggens
Two Of Pentacles: “The universe changes on a grand scale as befitting its cosmic design: Change is its mother; flux its father; you are its child. As a product of the ebb and flow of the tidal heavens, it is your charge to enact change upon the earth and to know the careful dance of balance in order to maintain your center. Though you may be buffeted by life’s tempestuous waves, know that beneath your feet is the very foundation of the world. I teach you the mystery of managing change in the realm of earth, the gift by which you may make the best of this abode of beauty and ugliness. I speak to you in polarities and opposites, in duality and complement, for in the journey between each you come to know the balance of the scales. Yet listen well: balance is not equality; rather, it is found in the gentle shifting of weight from one side of the other, continually, and it is in the unevenness of balance that the world is recreated.”
Mystery: “Dancing on the foundations of change is necessary once we’ve begun manifesting our desires. We’ve met change before, writ large in the world in the Wheel, but here we find it on an everyday level. Here are the ups and downs of daily life, the balance that must be found and maintained in order to manage our mundane world and the fine line between failure and success. Here also is the intricate relationship between our higher self and lower needs, between the divine and mundane in our lives and between our duties and our hopes.
The card image shows a dancer performing a classical Cambodian dance. She wears the traditional headdress of the Robam Preah Reach Trop (“Apsara Dance”) and balances carefully on a yoni-lingam carving. The waters of one of ancient Khmer’s man-made lakes are rough, the small boats riding the waves. Around her flit silver dragonflies, emblems of change. There are many aspects of the card image that symbolize the interaction between polarities and the process of change that is created through this interaction. The focus, however, is on the dancer, as the card’s focus is on the human place within this continual fluctuation and landscape of change. The golden pentacles balanced in the dancer’s hands are facing point-upwards (her right hand) and point-downwards (her left hand), indicating the exchange between the divine and the mundane that takes place on a daily basis. Around these pentacles, in white light, the shape of infinite flux, suggesting that the polarities of divine and mundane, up and down, can be swapped. Indeed, the dancer’s headdress indicates that she, a human, is standing in for a divine being. During the Robam Preah Reach Trop, female figures become Asparas, beautiful, nymph-like divine female figures that can be found frequently on carvings from ancient Cambodian temples.385
The man-made lake – or reservoir – is representative of the polarity between man and nature, here united in an attempt to harness and tame the forces of nature. Archaeologists found a copper pipe on an artificial island in the center of the Yasodharatataka reservoir, built in the 9th century. It is surmised that the king would regularly visit and use the pipe to measure water levels to ascertain whether rice planting could begin. 386 The Two Of Pentacles represents ways in which we try to make the best of all the changes that happen around us, seeking ways to not be negatively affected by them. Like the boats in the card image, we must ride the waves of life and allow ourselves to be carried by change: if we make ourselves rigid and unmoving, we will be drowned.
The yoni-lingam upom which the dancer balances is a sacred representation of Shiva – masculine creative energy – and Shakti – feminine creative energy. These cosmic forces create and perpetuate the cycles of change and generation in the world. The union of lingam and yoni represents the “indivisible two-in-oneness of male and female, the passive space and active time from which all life originates”. 387 In Taoist philosophy, this force is expressed as the yin-yang, which emphasizes that the seed of one polarity is present in its opposite polarity. Thus, the dancer who balances carefully on the yoni-lingam is balancing on the fundamental force of change in the world, on that which contains the seeds of flux. In the same way, we carefully balance our everyday lives in a sea of change, making sense and order in the best way we can of an otherwise chaotic, unpredictable world.”

There is much needed change coming into your life now… are you receptive to the opportunity that it is bringing you? This is a positive change, even if it feels like it is stretching you beyond your comfort zone. It could be in any area of your life, but you will find that it actually affects many aspects of your life once you fully commit to accepting it.
Do not struggle to hold on to the old, for with this shift comes what you have been wishing for, dreaming about and desiring to manifest. Go with the flow. Conserve your energy. There is no need to swim upstream when you can find bliss in allowing the river to take you exactly where you need to go. Have faith, open your heart and jump right in.
There is a balance here also between the polar energies; the Divine Masculine and the Divine Feminine meeting and coming into balance, first within you and then reflected in your external world. This can be in regards to love, relationships, power, or any other aspect of your life that has been previously out of balance. As harmony is restored, acceptance and love become the dominant forces, rather than the push and pull of fear and lack. Find these energies within yourself and you will find them all around you.
Step into the change. Transform yourself and transform the world around you.
