“Feel eager again for discovery and adventure. Curiosity may help you break barriers and solve problems.”

“Across Polynesia, from New Zealand to Hawaii, we hear stories about the hero Maui. Although the tales differ slightly from island to island and region to region, Maui’s exploits have given man fire, invented the kite, and even fished up whole islands for humans to live on.

Sometimes depicted as slightly disheveled and street smart, Maui manages to outwit his brothers and other opponents in his adventures. Other versions tell of a strong and mighty Maui, able to perform extraordinary heroic feats, but the common traits in most of his stories are his curiosity and urge for discovery.

Maui is the being responsible for introducing fire to man; in fact, he stole it from a bird. Maui and his brothers went fishing in the lagoon and happened to look back at the mountain near the shore. There was a fire burning. Man had not had fire for many generations, as the volcano that supplied the embers had ceased its rumbling. Racing back, Maui found only a wisp of smoke and a family of mud hens stamping the fire out.

every day thereafter, Maui and his brothers checked for fire but saw nothing. However, as they paddled out to fish one day, they saw a fire glowing against the mountain – out of reach again!

Now Maui had a plan. He decided to wait on shore while his brothers went fishing, but no fire appeared. Increasingly frustrated, Maui decided to make a life-sized doll of himself, and his brothers paddled out with it one fine day. this time, Maui would catch the birds at their fire.

Maui climbed up the mountain and found a hen just about to make the fire. Not waiting for her to start, he grabbed her and held her prisoner. Reminding him that if he hurt her, the secret would be lost, the bird convinced Maui to release her in return for the recipe for fire. The old hen taught Maui how to start a fire by rubbing special sticks together. Maui, quite the funny man, said to the mud hen, “come here, there is one more thing to rub!” And he rubbed the feathers on her head so hard that a bald patch appeared. Ever since that day, mud hens have had no feathers on their heads.

Maui’s sense of discovery also extended to creating a fishing hook so powerful that it pulled up whole islands from the ocean (to his utter surprise, mind you), and it is said that he created the islands of Hawaii in that way.

Call on Maui when you are eager for discovery, when you are working on solving a difficult problem and the answer seems far away, or when you need to find a little of the hero within yourself.”

Shadow Side: “Maui is a trickster and often makes his discoveries or gets his prize through stealing or, at the very least, outmaneuvering those in his way. While the end sometimes does justify the means, deceit and deception are not the ideal ways o get what you want. Maui’s appearance raises questions about our levels of authenticity, honesty, and contrivance.

We need to also monitor our levels of anger and frustration – sometimes humor can diffuse a difficult situation in the best possible way.”*

It’s time to get adventurous, shake things up a little! We get so stuck in our ruts, our comfort zones, and we are afraid to step out and change things.

What can you do differently today? Have some fun with it! Change up your routine, even if you have to stick to the plan. Wear something sexy and bright; take a different route to work; get a walk in at lunch time; call an old friend and laugh together; take a risk ask that special someone out on a date; pick or purchase some flowers for you or a loved one; surprise someone you love with some chocolate; try a new exercise class; do something you love to do that you have been too busy to do lately. Do something that makes you smile. Do something that makes someone else smile. Stir up the energy and see how it changes your day.

Rediscover your inner child. See each day as an adventure and make sure you stay flexible to accomodate some exciting surprises from the Universe… co-create a way more exciting existence for yourself! You deserve it, and joy, happiness and peace all start with little FUN!

Whenever the element of fire is present, transmutation and alchemy are possible. Stagnancy can be transformed into passion; fear and doubt can be changed into confidence and joy. If we allow this to be possible for us.

Fire Opal is a precious and powerful stone. It is a perfect stone for a focused, eyes open, gazing meditation; for it is constantly shifting and changing. The fires are literally burning within it and they radiate out for us to admire and learn from. Yes, it catches the light, but there is an aspect to its flash that appears to be a pulsing of power, a show of sorts, a playful display of what is possible.

Fire Opal asks you to dig way down deep and release your light. This is where your true gifts lie. Right in the center of your Heart center, where your Soul resides. There is so much light there; so much love. And it’s time to let it out in flashes of fire and passion in your life right now. This is the power to heal, to inspire, to ascend.

To awaken. Yourself and those around you. Through releasing your beautiful, magical light.

Wear warm colours; particularly orange to connect with your fire and balance your sacral chakra. Try Kundalini yoga! Move your body to sensual music. Light an orange, red or yellow candle. Paint your toe nails or your finger nails a warm, firey colour. Take it a step farther and put some red in your hair!

But most importantly, find your passion. Get out of your comfort zone and have some fun. Get inspired. Do something artistic that brings you joy.

Let your light sparkle

The Novice Of Avalon: “Innocence ~ Beginner ~ Ignorance ~ New Skill Without Practice ~ Unstable Curiosity”

The Messengers OF Avalon ~ The Novice:

“Innocence, naivete, foolishness, early knowledge not yet integrated, the ability to see the world untainted, and learning ability – these are the aspects of the Novice as she appears in your life.

The Novice is reminding you to be teachable and humble. If you do not know something, do not pretend that you do. Chances are that you will make an error that may cost you more than you wish to pay.

New information is coming, and this is the time to be open to learning and expanding. The Novice also reminds you to be like a child and remember the wonder and awe that you once had for the world around you… when discovering magic was an essential part of everyday experience.

The Novice reminds you that you need to stop and ask yourself, “What lesson must I learn here?” The lesson is always mirrored in the experience in front of you. Dig deep into the workings of whatever situation you are inquiring about. You do not have to look far, for the answer is right in front of you.

Sometimes it may feel as if you have two left feet and do not know how to dance, or that perhaps you are fumbling in the dark and fear that you may be left behind. It is all right to be in the “not knowing.” This is the place where new understanding takes time to integrate.

Be gentle with yourself. The greatest gift The Novice reminds you of is that you are always at the beginning of some area of your life. Patience and slow movement is requires when The Novice appears.

Before moving forward, perhaps you need time to journal your thoughts and receive clarity about what the mystery invited you to learn. Then rejoice! The Novice of Avalon is on a path to higher knowledge and abundant manifestation and does not stay a Novice for long.”

The energy here is of a puppy or a child; it is curious and enthusiastic even if a little messy and untamed. This is positive energy to move forward with, as long as it remains in this realm and does not stray to reckless or risky. There is so much to learn, it may be hard to focus on just one skill at a time, yet if we can try to employ patience, learning one step at a time, we can harness it’s pure creative energy and use it to manifest some pretty amazing things!

We are held back by so many rules; trained to colour within the lines, stay inside the box and not to rock the boat… to name a few cliches we are burdened with over our formative years. Yet, if we can go back to dancing, painting, running and jumping in puddles with the wild abandon of a small child, we can find a whole new way to look at the world.

Through new eyes, fresh and pure, untainted by the woes of the world. With this energy we can simultaneously heal and create. We can do it as we laugh and skip and twirl; make daisy chains, hug trees and chase the dog around. We can approach the world with curiosity and big, expansive love.

And in doing so, we can make a difference.
