“Feel eager again for discovery and adventure. Curiosity may help you break barriers and solve problems.”

“Across Polynesia, from New Zealand to Hawaii, we hear stories about the hero Maui. Although the tales differ slightly from island to island and region to region, Maui’s exploits have given man fire, invented the kite, and even fished up whole islands for humans to live on.

Sometimes depicted as slightly disheveled and street smart, Maui manages to outwit his brothers and other opponents in his adventures. Other versions tell of a strong and mighty Maui, able to perform extraordinary heroic feats, but the common traits in most of his stories are his curiosity and urge for discovery.

Maui is the being responsible for introducing fire to man; in fact, he stole it from a bird. Maui and his brothers went fishing in the lagoon and happened to look back at the mountain near the shore. There was a fire burning. Man had not had fire for many generations, as the volcano that supplied the embers had ceased its rumbling. Racing back, Maui found only a wisp of smoke and a family of mud hens stamping the fire out.

every day thereafter, Maui and his brothers checked for fire but saw nothing. However, as they paddled out to fish one day, they saw a fire glowing against the mountain – out of reach again!

Now Maui had a plan. He decided to wait on shore while his brothers went fishing, but no fire appeared. Increasingly frustrated, Maui decided to make a life-sized doll of himself, and his brothers paddled out with it one fine day. this time, Maui would catch the birds at their fire.

Maui climbed up the mountain and found a hen just about to make the fire. Not waiting for her to start, he grabbed her and held her prisoner. Reminding him that if he hurt her, the secret would be lost, the bird convinced Maui to release her in return for the recipe for fire. The old hen taught Maui how to start a fire by rubbing special sticks together. Maui, quite the funny man, said to the mud hen, “come here, there is one more thing to rub!” And he rubbed the feathers on her head so hard that a bald patch appeared. Ever since that day, mud hens have had no feathers on their heads.

Maui’s sense of discovery also extended to creating a fishing hook so powerful that it pulled up whole islands from the ocean (to his utter surprise, mind you), and it is said that he created the islands of Hawaii in that way.

Call on Maui when you are eager for discovery, when you are working on solving a difficult problem and the answer seems far away, or when you need to find a little of the hero within yourself.”

Shadow Side: “Maui is a trickster and often makes his discoveries or gets his prize through stealing or, at the very least, outmaneuvering those in his way. While the end sometimes does justify the means, deceit and deception are not the ideal ways o get what you want. Maui’s appearance raises questions about our levels of authenticity, honesty, and contrivance.

We need to also monitor our levels of anger and frustration – sometimes humor can diffuse a difficult situation in the best possible way.”*

It’s time to get adventurous, shake things up a little! We get so stuck in our ruts, our comfort zones, and we are afraid to step out and change things.

What can you do differently today? Have some fun with it! Change up your routine, even if you have to stick to the plan. Wear something sexy and bright; take a different route to work; get a walk in at lunch time; call an old friend and laugh together; take a risk ask that special someone out on a date; pick or purchase some flowers for you or a loved one; surprise someone you love with some chocolate; try a new exercise class; do something you love to do that you have been too busy to do lately. Do something that makes you smile. Do something that makes someone else smile. Stir up the energy and see how it changes your day.

Rediscover your inner child. See each day as an adventure and make sure you stay flexible to accomodate some exciting surprises from the Universe… co-create a way more exciting existence for yourself! You deserve it, and joy, happiness and peace all start with little FUN!

Pele ~ Purpose: “Think clearly about your next steps. It is time to uncover your purpose. Create something new. Take action; do not hide or hesitate. Balance your emotional extremes.”

“Madame Pele, as Hawaiians refer to this fiery Goddess, embodies one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The spectacular Halemaumau crater on Kilauea Volcano, on the big island of Hawaii, is said to be the Goddess’s home, where she creates new land from nothing but passion and fire.

Born of the female spirit Hina, who was directly descended from the Earth Mother and the Sky Father, Pele is a much loved figure in Hawaiian mythology. There are many stories about the beautiful and lively Goddess, many of them showcasing her dynamic qualities of change and purposeful transformation. She can appear as an elderly woman with a small dog or as a beautiful young woman, depending on her purposes, and it is said she appears to her people just before a major volcanic eruption. She can be a jealous and forceful goddess and very possessive of what is hers. Beware, to this day it is not advised to take any stones from her volcanoes!

Pele is the perfect goddess to call upon when you feel directionless or unclear. If you feel bored a lot or unexcited about life, you may need her dynamism. She is a creative force dedicated to moving you forward toward living your true purpose. If you don’t know what you want to do when you leave school, aren’t sure which course to take, or feel a little stuck about what your next steps in life should be, Pele will shake you out of your rut and get you moving in the right direction.”

Shadow Side/Challenger: “Pele is notoriously changeable and impetuous, and she likes to get her won way. She can be an extreme personality who only thinks about  her own purposes and wants. It is important that we develop the emotional intelligence to balance our most extreme emotions and to recognize that sometimes we may not get what we want straight away. Sometimes compromise is necessary. While it is very important to have goals and an underlying purpose in life, we need to be aware that we should not go after these things while ignoring the well-being and needs of those around us.”

All this excitement and success needs to be fueled by passion, which will lend you the confidence to move forward fearlessly. What is it, exactly, that you wish to create? Where does your passion lie? How can you turn your passion into a gift that you can share with the world? How can you incorporate it into being of service, healing others, animals and the planet herself? Why did you come here to this physical realm? What is your life’s purpose?

Pele is the goddess of passion and action, she is all about moving forward fearlessly; claiming what is your birthright, getting inspired and motivated to create something big. She is about boldly standing in your truth; empowered communication; undergoing rapid transformation and dynamic change.

And she is not to be messed with! As she is passionate, she is equally volatile. Pele does not put up with any games; burning away the masks and excuses that have kept our true authentic selves hidden… keeping us stagnant and stale.

Are you ready to invite the energy of Goddess Pele into your life?

Do you really think you have a choice?

Pele ~ Awakening:

“I surge I pulse I throb

I am never still

I am perpetual vibration

a rhythmic beat

the constant hum that you hear

I am always moving

way down in the deeps

with fiery vitality

in places you can only feel

When necessary

with dramatic, fierce, volcanic eruptions

I wake you up

With lava and fire

I say “pay attention”

Mytholory: “Pele (pronounced pay’lay) is the volcano Goddess of the Polynesian people of Hawaii. According to legend she appears to people as a beautiful and mysterious young woman just before her volcano is about to erupt or as a gnarled old woman who lights her cigarette with the snap of her fingers. Although her priestesses, the queens of Hawaii, were converted to Christianity when Mauna Loa erupted in 1880, Princess Keelikolani recited the old chants, gave offerings of silk cloth, and poured brandy into the bubbling lava. Pele, thus appeased, grew calm.”

Meaning Of The Card: “Pele’s appearance signals a need for awakening. Have you been sitting still for too long? Have you been lulled into sleep by the evenness in your life? Has reality been too slippery to grasp? Get ready to awaken your awareness and come into full consciousness. Now is the time to see things as they really are, to initiate change so things can be as you want them to be. Now is the time to wake up to your potential and power, to move and to shake. Pay attention to all that life is telling you. Pele says that when you nurture awakening, your life becomes creative rather than reactive – an infinitely more powerful place to be!”*

~ By Amy Sophia Marashinsky

Pele is all about unapologetically claiming your power. She is beautiful and all-powerful yet don’t get on her bad side as she just may explode all over you and you may not recover from her burns. She is dramatic and passionate, and she asks us to live our lives with as much passion as we can muster. Pele says: “after all, life is short, why stay small when you can awaken all of your powers and soar?” Do not hold back, but move forward fearlessly. Do not let anything or anyone get in your way!

This is a time of revved up passion in every aspect of your life. It is the awakening of your root and sacral chakra, sexual and creative energies are at an all time high!  This does not necessarily mean that you must channel this energy into someone else, although that is definitely a possibility… it also means that you are at your most creative and can use this energy to manifest what you desire. Use a broad brush at this time, skip the fine details, they will all work out in the end. Follow your heart as it knows where you need to be right now.

Access this amazing energy! Flirt a little; dress in red; feel sexy; paint your nails or put some red in your hair; wear red lipstick. Invoke the power of Pele and step into your power.

And don’t forget to have fun with it.

Hina ~ Freedom

Hina ~ Freedom

Daily Angel Oracle Card, from the Ascended Masters Oracle Card deck, by Doreen Virtue: Hina

Hina: Freedom

Card Meaning: “Walk away from restrictions and be free! You have the power and the right to change your life so that you experience more freedom. This card signifies that your soul is crying out for more freedom, especially as it involves your life’s purpose. Perhaps it is time to take a break so that you can think clearly about your desires and available options. The Universe always supports the desire for expansion, creativity, and freedom. Say yes to freedom and the Universe will say yes to you.

Additional meanings for this card: “It is time to leave a situation that you have outgrown. Question the validity of any rules that you have imposed on yourself. Allow the Universe to support you while you make desired life changes. Be assertive and say no to anyone who is overstepping boundaries with you.

Hina is a Polynesian and Hawaiian moon goddess who is considered to beautiful that no one can directly look at her. She felt compassion for the natives, so she threw pieces of the moon down to the islands to provide for their material needs. The pieces turned into banyan trees, which the natives pounded into tapas cloth for use in clothing and commerce. Call upon Hina for issues involving fertility, attraction and manifestation.”*

I often reflect on my current lack of freedom and how I wish that I had appreciated it when I had it years ago, traveling around the world where ever and when ever I felt like. All diving related, so there are still many places on my Planet Earth list, but I got to see some amazing places under and above the ocean, and I am thankful for it. Being married, having kids who are into sports, and running two businesses keeps me on my toes… and anchored down for now, freedom being a thing of the past! It’s just a compromise for now though, freedom will return, probably faster than I can imagine possible right now and most likely faster than I will be prepared for. Does this life not just fly by? When you are compromising your freedom to create decent human beings, it all seems worthwhile. So in the meantime, I can dream about distant turquoise oceans, beach side yoga retreats and people living simple lives, connected closely with Mother Earth.

What can we all do in the mean time? Well, steal a few minutes every day to meditate, do yoga, breathe fresh air, be grateful for my own health and the health of my children, family and friends. Concentrate on providing an example of love, compassion and gratitude. Be kind to the Earth and all her inhabitants, no matter how small my current world seems, as we are all connected. Work on manifesting an abundance of health, peace, happiness and connection for everyone on this beautiful little planet.
