Nine Of Swords:

“Stormcrows herald impending dissolution
with voices cawing raucous absolution
round and round and spiraling ever near
one future sought – one future feared.”

“The funnel of the sky stretches up to the heavens, an ominous tower of storms with only a tiny glimmer of hope lighting the eye of turmoil high above. “Come to me, come with me,” the voice of a stormcrow whispers to him from nearby. “Let me guide you through.” With anxious eyes, he gazes upwards, away, oblivious to the proffered guidance through the dark night of the soul. He clutches a sheathed sword close for security, though he could easily grasp its bright blade aloft to light the way. But he is ignorant of that beacon he holds so tight, or perhaps too weak hearted and tremulous to wield it.

He suffers from anguish. The swords tattooed upon his breast are pinpricked markings of the regrets he experiences. He is tormented by inner fear, anxiety, guilt, and uncertainties in the night. He is a being of the air – his wings should carry him aloft, and the sky should be open and expansive and a world of freedom. Instead, it feels like a trap closing its jaws upon him with the howling winds of the approaching storm. And yet, if he were to just cast aside those doubts, he could be as free as the stormcrows that spiral in untroubled arcs above.

The Nine Of Swords swirls with inner turmoil. It is a moment of vulnerability, with the soul laid bare to its own demons. Guilt and fear lock muscles into immobility. Understand the source of those fears; learn what they mean and where they stem from. Know that the strength to break free of those shackles lies within one’s own heart.”*

This is a message about facing your fears, releasing yourself from feeling stuck by your circumstances, and daring to create something new. Fear is holding you hostage in more ways than you realize. Emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually. Vibrationally. Look at it closely. Where is the fear coming from? Is it so ingrained that you are used to it? Are you feeling like a victim of circumstance in your own life?

It’s time to create something new. Release the old scars, the regrets, the pain of the past. It is time to soar above the drama and the limited perceptions of what is possible for you. And the only way to do this is to take full responsibility for everything that has happened in your life and learn from it. See the lesson and let it all go. Focus your energy elsewhere, away from the old habits and ways of being in the world.

The birds in this card represent freedom as they soar up towards the portal of light and infinite opportunity. He is so aware of the pain of the past it is literally engraved on his chest; yet he fails to notice his own big, beautiful and powerful wings, where his guide stands trying to get his attention; to offer support. Yet he looks the other way. He thinks he needs a sword to fight his way through life, yet what he needs instead is to trust in his ability to rise above it all and create something new.

Look at your own life. Where are you being held back by the past? Are you seeing the Light being offered to you now? Where can you shed the old pain and the weight of past regrets and mistakes and find renewed strength and courage to release all the old and embrace a new lightness of Being? Trust in yourself and your own big beautiful, powerful wings to take you where you need to be. For the Highest Good Of All.

And so it is

Daily Angel Oracle Card: Nine Of Swords, from the Tarot of the Hidden Realm, by Julia Jeffrey and Barbara Moore

“She has been running and fighting for so long that she has forgotten what it is like to be still. Even though it is over, she cannot relax. She crouches, ready to spring into action if necessary. How long has she been here? She wonders. Long enough that her body is no longer racked with heaving gasps, her lungs struggling to take in more air. Her muscles, while still tense, are no longer quivering.

As her heart and mind slow, she feels the night air warm on her skin, still damp from sweat. The night is passing; soon it will be dawn. Now that exhaustion is starting to fall from her, she faces a decision: what to do next. It seems so simple, so why does it feel like another battle? What is she afraid of? After all she has seen, all she has lived through, deciding what to do now that it is over should be easy.

An owl lands nearby, apparently unafraid, feathers dropping from his silent wings. She watches him without moving even as downy soft whispers brush her skin, falling like the tears she cannot yet release. He stays with her until all that she has seen, all that she has lived through, is relieve through the eyes of compassion and wisdom.”

Divinatory Meaning of the Nine Of Swords Card: “It has been a tough time. You have faced some challenges and made some difficult decisions. The good news is that the Nine Of Swords indicates that this phase is at an end, or very nearly so. Your current task is to wrap things up. Some people make the mistake of reliving such times over and over, watching the tapes with regret, bitterness, or anger. In order to move forward, you need to relive the situation one last time through the eyes of compassion… for yourself and for everyone else involved. Learn the lessons embedded in the experience. Recognize the wisdom gained. Then you can truly move forward.”*

This card made my heart ache as I read its message. It resonates so deeply. I understand the feeling so well; that of struggling for so long that once you realize that the struggle is over, you are like a deer in the headlights, unable to decide which way to go. Longing for freedom and then once getting it, not knowing what to do with it all. Trading one set of issues for another. Focusing so much energy on a person or problem, that once they walk away you forget who you were without that stress.

It takes time. It takes healing. It takes compassion. To move forward into the new. At first you think it will be so easy, that you will grasp every opportunity, that you will be joyful and appreciate your freedom. But yet there you are, stuck, frozen, unsure of what to do next.

All you can do is breathe. Trust. Do a whole lot of yoga! And know that this too, shall pass. And that you will get stronger. And you will start walking through those open doors. And that everything is as it should be.

Don’t be so hard on yourself, you got this far. There was a time when where you are now may not have even seemed possible. But it is. You are here. And it is going to get so much better.
