Ngetal Reed:
“Northern Hemisphere Dates: September 5th – October 2nd
(Southern Hemisphere Dates: March 5th – April 2)
Totems: Owl, Pike
Deities/Guides: Goddesses of the Hunt, like Athena and Artemis, and the Crone Aspect of the Goddess, like Hecate and Lilith
Letter: NG
Class: Shrub
12th Lunation
Celebration: Autumn Equinox, September 20/21 (March 20/21)”

Keywords: “Direct action, movement, focus, intention, conviction, on purpose, progress, skill, becoming a hollow reed.”

The Ngetal Reed initiates in the twelfth lunation of the year and the autumnal equinox, also known as Mabon and Alban Elved. We celebrate the harvest, now. Thus, we honour completions and also prepare for the coming of winter. This portal calls for direct action towards the month in which we can set and deliver our last intentions for the year’s ending. The double helix of our DNA is a symbol for this portal. Reed includes grasses, bamboo, cattails, and other plants with long, hollow shoots. The ogham for Reed is Ngetal and the letter NG.”

Ngetal Reed in a Reading: “When you get Reed in a reading, it is time to focus on a desired outcome and take action. If you are looking for a job, make calls and set up appointments. If you are working on a project, set up your itinerary and get busy. Today is the day.

Set your intentions and back them up with daily affirmations. Ask your community for help and seek out those who will support you. Call upon those who are in a position to lend you a hand up. It is time for strong, determined action. Go for the bullseye. Use your energy to make your dreams come true.

This card also asks you to either reset your intentions and goals to make them more current – or more realistic – or to re-energize them. Take stock. Write down ways you can implement your dreams. It is time to take concrete action towards your goals. Even small steps can make a big difference. This is a great time to seek out a friend who can act as support and a witness, help you launch your ideas into reality.”

As Challenger: “Perhaps you are avoiding taking responsibility for your situation. You cannot win, now, by simply biding your time. Don’t let life pass you by: get busy and get going. Perhaps you are too sedentary. If so, get off the couch and start walking. Tidy up. Use your energy in a positive way. Begin to move, little by little, baby step by baby step. You have some work to do before you can reach your goals and inspirations. You need more practice and skill and knowledge.

Ask for the energy of Reed if you are stuck or blocked. Imagine that you are the archer – take your bow and arrow, and with great skill and purpose, shoot the arrow to your bullseye. Allow the intention of your focus to carry you forward. Ask spirit for help. Set your intention to be a hollow reed for spirit to work through you as you focus on your intention.”

Message: “I represent action. No more apathy, please. Align with spirit and ask for direction. Align with the power of the owl or the pike. They know how to hunt and stalk. What do you want? It is time to go for it. Stick to your resolve. Set your intention and take steps toward outcomes. I ask you to take yourself seriously. Believe in yourself. I send you courage and fortitude and the belief in a positive outcome, no matter what. You are here for a purpose: to fulfill your own choices. So so with creativity and a spirit of fun.”*

As the time of the autumn equinox or harvest closes we are asked to take action on creating our dreams. This is a time of forward momentum. We must close out the year successfully, there is no room for stagnancy here. If you feel that you are stuck in a rut, it is up to you to change up the energy.

Find a way to do things differently; take a day off to go somewhere you have never been. Take a class or workshop, meet new people. Do some research on a desired vacation. Check into new job openings. Do something different than what you would normally do!

Revisit goal setting, particularly goals that you want to have achieved by the end of the year. Look at the bigger picture, what do you wish to create? How can you take action right now in order to get closer to your goals? Write it down. Get really clear. Set an intention for short and longer term. Do not let past failures get in the way of your future success.

You are the archer, this always resonates with me as a Sagittarius. See yourself aiming your arrow with absolute focus and concentration. Know that you are completely responsible for creating your dreams.

The Master Maker

Daily Angel Oracle Card: The Master Maker, from The Faeries’ Oracle, By Brian Froud and Jessica MacBeth

The Master Maker: “Skill, Craftsmanship, Magician, Moral Strength, Invention”

“The Master Maker is the master of the forge, upon which we create our futures and forge our own souls. He sees the world beyond the otherworld, the world of first causes. Through his magic, he brings them into his world of Faery. From his world, these concepts trickle down into our own, through dreams and visions picked up by artists and craftsmen everywhere. But he makes the first, the original. He is the great inventor, and the sign above his door reads: Practical Problems Solved Here.

He sings as he worlds and, as in all Faery magic, his song does as much to shape objects as do the blows of his hammer. Healing cups, magic swords, Faery jewels, crowns of stars, and other bespelled works of the finest craftsmanship pass through is forge and beneath his hammer. The master of fire, air, earth and water, he adds the Faery element of moonlight to everything he creates. He would be the first to tell you that superb craftsmanship, however magical, is hard work – joyful and energizing hard work, but always challenging. As the Master Maker reminds us, “no job is too small to do beautifully.” His work is done as well as possible, even where it will never be seen by anyone else.

Bringing ideas into excellently crafted reality can only be done when we, like the Master Maker, ware willing to plan meticulously, begin carefully, and persevere through difficulties, learning still more of our craft as we work. Craftsmanship is also a labour of love. We must be willing to tackle difficult challenges and have a determination to surpass previous achievements. Patience is always required, as is the willingness to do a thing again and again until it is even better than the best one can do. The Master Maker has the moral strength to refuse the temptation to do anything less, and he is a protector and teacher of the traditional values of his craft. Yet, in balance to all of this, The Master reminds us that we also need to learn our own limits – not everyone can do everything superbly. When we discover our talents and choose our craft, then we gain great joy and fulfillment from developing that skill into an art.

We grow more like the Master Maker each time we do the best we can – and then stretch ourselves to do a little better than that.”

Starter Reading: “Do whatever you do as well as you can. And then make it even better. The Master Maker reminds us that our very best work is always desirable, and in the present situation, it is necessary for success. In fact, he asks that we surpass our previous best. Do not cut corners and do not take the easy way. Whether making a thing or fulfilling a concept, be sure the design is elegant, pure and functional, and then follow it, attending to every detail in its turn. He says, “Design beyond your skill, and then raise the level of your skill to fulfill it.”Give and accept only the best, and do it with love of your craft, whatever that craft may be.

This card speaks of long-lasting achievement, creative problem solving, and confident action. It may suggest cooperation with others, especially from a position of responsibility or of teaching one’s craft to others. Success comes from practical application of traditional principles, in life and in work.”

As Challenger: “When The Master Maker’s wisdom and skill are blocked, shoddy craftsmanship is a problem. It doesn’t matter what the art or skill or craft is, it doesn’t matter whether it is physical or intellectual, this situation is likely to deteriorate badly if people do not give their best – and then do even better than that. This card reversed may represent haphazard work, mediocrity, lack of skill, or unrealized potential. While traditional values of quality and integrity of workmanship are important, being dogmatic or stuck in outworn ways just for the sake of tradition is another block to the art of the craftsman.

Twisted, the wisdom of this card becomes indicative of the misuse of craftsmanship. For example, we might use our skills in finishing to hide flaws in a structure of either a physical object or a concept or organization.

The destructive mode here is to use our skills and craftsmanship, in any field, to create the means of destruction, whether of lives or the environment or hopes and dreams.”*

If you are going to do something, do it right or don’t do it at all. This is not about perfectionism, it is about putting your heart and Soul into something that represents you. It is about using your energy to change your environment; quite literally putting your mark on the world.

This is something that you just can’t do half way, you have to throw yourself into it. And how do you do that? Be absolutely present while creating. Don’t let yourself get distracted by the past or the future. Focus all of your energy on the Now, the right here, doing this. Pull your distracted mind into the moment and hold it fast, do not let it get away from you. This is so powerful.

We are absolutely inundated with distractions; from the media and social media to texting and phoning and checking this and that. We may not realize that we aren’t putting all of our energy where is desperately needs to go. We are so scattered, having to answer various messaged, read up on the latest headlines, get to the next level on a video game, order whatever online, check up on our status or online dating… the list is quite literally endless. So what’s left over when we go into creation and manifestation mode? Where does the monkey mind lead us? Or is it a circus of monkeys up there?

This is where meditation,¬† yoga, and getting our in nature really come in really handy… learning to bring our focus back to our breath, emptying the mind, becoming the observer rather than the reactor.

We must put all of our energy into the task at hand. We must create with Love, with intention, with consideration. We must harness the power of all of our magic and funnel it into our manifestation. Pure and simple.

That is how you recreate your world.

Daily Angel Oracle Card: Elephant, from the Animal Voices Oracle Card deck, by Chip Richards, Illustrated by Susan Farrell

Elephant: “Responsibility ~ Cooperation ~ Empathy”

The Gift: “Elephants have one of the closet and most loyal families of all the animal kingdom. They live together for up to 80 years, they babysit each other’s young and if one Elephant becomes sick, others bring it food, and protect if until it is well again. When an Elephant dies, the herd covers the elder with dirt and branches. Passing herds will pause at the grave site and offer their respect – even if they did not know the Elephant.”

The Message: “When Elephant enters your life, she brings great blessings. With gentle power and cooperation, Elephant trumpets a reminder that you are a force for good in the world! There are people all around you that love and support you. Ask for help when you need it and be grateful when it comes. Look for ways also to help others on their path. Keep your eyes open for ways you can bring the gift of special support and be helpful when others least expect it!”

The Call: “Take time today to say “thank you” to someone who has been helpful to you when you really needed it. And find someone today that you can show special kindness to. Help them start or finish something they are trying to do. This could be as simple as doing the dishes, cleaning a room, quietly listening or holding someone’s hand as they take their first step into a big dream.”*

~ by Chip Richards

Elephants practice Unconditional love and acceptance by caring for each other’s young, by honouring the members of their clans who have passed on, and those of other clans as well. They are deeply connected to the Earth and to the ancestors and ancients. They practice compassion, loyalty and love. We can learn valuable lessons from the elephant.

This is also a reminder of the power of gratitude in our lives.

Gratitude holds unimaginable power. Gratitude has the power to transmute negative into positive, and turns us into magnets for more to be grateful for. It allows us to rise above the drama of everyday life, and it offers us an olive branch when things feel beyond our control. Gratitude can rekindle the Light within us when all else seems to have failed.

What are you most grateful for? What keeps you going every moment of every day? What have you possibly taken for granted that¬† you could express great thanks for, knowing that it has made a difference in your life, has made you a better person? Take time today to express this gratitude to someone who has helped you, who has loved you, and who has helped to make you who you are today. Buy a bouquet or pick some wild flowers or deliver a hand written note. It doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated, even a simple Thank you hug or smile will do wonders.
