Nuada ~ Perfection

Daily Angel Card: Nuada ~ Perfection, from the Gods and Titans Oracle Card deck, by Stacey Demarco, artwork by Jimmy Manton

Nuada ~ Perfection: “Love and appreciate your uniqueness and you ‘imperfections.’ Question the costs of chasing perfection. Delight in who you are.”

“The story of Nuada is a very ancient one that has woven itself into different themes and variants over different times and places. One thing that stays constant is his exploration of suitability and perfection.

Nuada is the King of Erin, one of the heroic Tuatha de Danann, which was one of the mythical ancient races of Ireland. According to myth, these early Celtic times were far from peaceful, with bloody battles being waged continuously. During one of the major battles, the Dananns, led by Nuada and his sword of invincibility, defeated the Firbolgs. The fighting was so bloody and fierce, though, that Nuada lost his right hand. This was a disaster for Nuada, as there was an ancient law that precluded anyone who was not ‘whole’ from being kind. His mutilation lost him his rule even though he was a victorious, just and benevolent leader.

The Dananns then chose Bres ans their leader. Bres, although a skilled fighter, had little of Nuada’s wisdom and fairness. The kingdom soon felt the effects of this discordant king.

Nuada’s brother, the physician Dian Cecht, fashioned a magical silver hand to replace the one Nuada had lost. Not only functional, the silver hand was beautiful too. Nuada became Nuada Airgedlamh (Nuada of the Silver Hand), again worthy among his people, and Bres steppe down from the throne.

Today, more than ever, we chase perfection, but what is it really? We often see external perfection as necessary to success. The quest for perfect beauty and a perfect body has thrown us toward a predilection for worrying about our external looks, ‘enhancing’ ourselves with too much makeup and even surgery, and obsessing over dieting and unhealthy eating habits. When did the fact that we have healthy, strong and functional bodies become not enough?

We are born with everything we need to be what we are meant to be. We are born imperfectly perfect! Our uniqueness has a reason. Nuada reminds us that to be perfect, we need not pursue some unattainable and false idea. Perfection is a subjective judgment and not an objective reality. In Nuada’s case, he was the best leader; his missing and did not take away from his great leadership qualities.”

Shadow Side: “Many people state that they are perfectionists like it is a badge of honor. While trying to be excellent and the best we can be is admirable, striving for an unattainable illusion is tiring and damaging. Remember, should Nuada show his hand to you, consider that you may well be good enough already!”

Symbols: “Silver hand, invincible sword.”

Invocation: “You may like to place a silver object on your altar as an offering to Nuada. If it is a piece of jewelry, you may wish to wear it in honor of Nuada and as a reminder of your own unique perfection!”

Light a silver candle. Say out loud:

Beloved of the Tuatha de Danann,
Great chieftan Nuada,
Hear my petition!
I feel judged.
I feel I am not enough.
Help me feel my wholeness.
Cut through my insecurity.
(State here what you need help with.)
Help me feel my birthright flood through me
like blood through my veins.
You who heal, you who know,
Guide and protect my next steps.
I honour you, Nuada of the Silver Hand!”

Sometimes we hold ourselves back for the most absurd reason: Perfection. We believe that we have to be perfect in order to deserve what we desire. We believe we must be successful, or svelte or beautiful before we get what we truly want out of life. So, in the pursuit of perfection, we lose out on our dreams. We quite literally push them away seeking something better because we cannot see what is before us.

This has to stop.

There is so much emphasis on wealth and physical attractiveness and / or fitness in our culture that we have all but lost our minds. We value people for all the wrong reasons. We put people above us for all the wrong reasons. I will not mention names…

We look at what someone else has, and if we do not have it then we assume that they are simply better than we are. In turn, we look down on those who have less than we do, blaming them for their own twist of fate. We even have labels for different parts of the world being first world, third world, etc. Many people truly believe that they cannot improve their circumstances and they focus so much on the lack or the chaos in front of them, that it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

But maybe there is another way. Maybe if we valued ourselves more, it would change the world around us. If we could truly love and accept ourselves, we wouldn’t need the big bank account or the plastic surgery to prove our worth. Maybe we could judge ourselves on our own scales by our own level of peace, joy and happiness. And let others do the same. Truly celebrate our individual diversity as well as our deep connections to each other, knowing that we all have something valuable to offer, regardless of race, gender or lifestyle choices.

Rather than striving for perfection, strive for passion and joy; inspiration, acceptance and a heart full of love. Yes, we all need to get by, but we can do it without judging ourselves or others harshly. We can work together to support each other on our unique and individual life paths.

For the Highest Good Of All

And so it is

Gaia ~ Creation

Published February 6, 2018 by Dee ~ Archangel Oracle

Gaia ~ Creation, from the Goddesses and Sirens Oracle Card deck, by Stacey Demarco, artwork by Jimmy Manton

Daily Angel Oracle Card, Gaia ~ Creation, from the Goddesses and Sirens Oracle Card deck, by Stacey Demarco, artwork by Jimmy Manton

Gaia ~ Creation: “You are creative in every way. There are no barriers to constant, consistent creation. Allow yourself to create in joy, not because of pressure. Connect more deeply with the earth.”

“Almost every culture has a creation myth, and the ancient Greeks were no exception. They believed that there was nothing at first but a primordial whirl of matter. This state was called Chaos. Then some organizing influences formed and stepped from Chaos, the first of which were Eros (love) then Gaia (earth).

Gaia then gave birth to Uranus, the sky; Ourea, the mountains, and Pontus, the sea. Gaia considered Uranus her equal, and they joined together. Uranus exploded in joy and love, showering Gaia with stars and rain, and she bore other gods, goddesses, and titans including Rhea, a daughter; Cronus, a son; and the terrible titan, Typhon.

The earth goddess has been venerated in her role as creator since time began. She may well have been worshipped originally as the ultimate mother, the first energy to nourish and provide creative fertility. She deserved the attention – she provided early humans with everything they needed to survive: food, water, shelter, and even plants for medicine.

Gaia celebrates and rejoices in her creations whether they are plant, animal, wind, rain, sight, sound, titan, or animal. Even when her creations horrify her, she still protects them and finds a place for them. True creation always brings with it a spark of joy.

Gaia has become a popular goddess among modern spiritual people and no longer belongs only to ancient Greek mythology. When people speak of the living spirit of the earth, they often name it Gaia. We know much more about the earth and the systems that make it work now than the ancient Greeks did; however, the way they saw that Gaia was a living cycle with interconnecting influences does them much credit. Even the idea that there was a sort of big bang out of the primordial Chaos is something that our brightest scientists are only just getting their heads around, but it was simple truth for the Greeks.

Gaia is the ultimate expression of creative power. When you need a creative spark to arise within you, when you are tired of doing things the same old way, when you need growth within yourself, turn to the deep, loving, creative energy of Gaia. If you are drawn to something that calls for consistent creativity – such as the arts, music, drama, or invention – or even if you need a new approach to writing something as simple as a paper, she is a wonderful deity to help you maintain a steady flow. For those involved in environmental protection, she is an invaluable ally.”

Shadow Side: “Gaia eventually faded from the active worship of the Greeks in favor of other deities. Over time, humans forgot about the earth and her delicate cycles and began to worship the gods of industry with little thought to the impact on the earth. Today we are well aware of the consequences of a growing human footprint. We wipe whole species from the earth, we destroy her very fabric with atomic bombs, we mine her lifeblood, we rip out her trees from already depleted soil and we influence her temperature with our pollution. Gaia has always sought to balance herself – this is the nature of her creative energy – and so the consequences of our human actions upon Gaia are already being seen. Rising water levels, depleted soils not bearing enough food, fiercer weather because of the warming of the atmosphere – all are Gaia’s efforts to rebalance. Will we be able to cast off our destructive nature and connect with our peaceful, creative one in time? Will we be able to connect with our original mother with balance again?”

Symbols: “Woman with broad hips and breasts, pregnant woman, woman inside the earth.”

Invocation: “Most of us have become incredibly cerebral creatures. We live in our minds in order to navigate this increasingly complex world. We connect through cell phones, social networking, and other electronic means. There’s nothing wrong with that some of the time, but our bodies need to be fully inhabited for us to experience a rounded life. We often forget the body’s amazing ability to connect us to what is divine and good through Gaia. If you are feeling disconnected despite all these new ways to connect, or you are not feeling in touch with yourself and the earth, you might like to try this meditation, which will connect you to Gaia’s energies.

Other great ways to express your love for her are to actively contribute to environmental activities, such as land care programs, conservation charities, animal protection work, or gardening.

Go to a favourite place in nature, one that speaks to you of groundedness, earthiness, and Gaia. This must be outdoors; you cannot do this mediation indoors.

Light a green candle and say: ‘Gaia, the oldest mother of all, allow me to join with you now, allow me to feel your green energy through my heart.’

Begin to breathe slowly and deeply slowly becoming away of your relationship to the environment around you. If you are female, you may like to take your breathing down through your belly into your womb. Imagine breathing in and out through this sacred place of creation. If you are male, connect and breathe through your sacral zone (extreme lower back).

Begin to open all your senses to Gaia, extending yourself and reaching out to her like roots would search through the soil. Pull up some energy, just like the roots would search through the soil. Pull up some energy, just like the roots would draw up water and nutrients.

Now, open your eyes: look around you, open your peripheral vision, look at the detail on nature, from the tiniest insect to the expanse of the sky. Soak in what you see and give thanks to Gaia.

Go to your aural sense. Close your eyes and concentrate on the sounds around you. Listen closely to the layers of life. Be very still and listen to your heartbeat and the way it melts into Gaia’s soundtrack. Again, give thanks to her for her connection with you.

Continue this through  your other senses, taste and touch.

When you have connected completely this way, make a mental and physical note of the grounded feeling that you have; connected, stable, secure and creative. You can come back to this feeling any time.

When you are ready, thank Gaia and begin to come back to yourself. Know that you are changed and energized! Blow out your candle.”*

~ By Stacey Demarco

Our beautiful Mother Goddess needs our help. She needs us to make change, big change… individually and collectively we can make a difference. WE are the ones… there is no THEM. They, the government, the big corporations… they are us too. We keep them going with our participation in their systems. Not that I am suggesting we overthrow them, yet… but that we peacefully make as many changes close to home as we possibly can. Day after day. Committed to the very best cause. Our planet.

Where will we live if we destroy her? How is it that many of us don’t see and ultimately feel our deep connection to her? We get so wrapped up in the mundane routine and drama that we have completely lost perspective. We are the problem and we are the only ones who can fix it.

And this is not rocket science here. It’s stuff we read about every day. It’s stuff we have heard our whole lifetime… or a good part of it anyway. We feel powerless because so much damage has been done. But we cannot let despair throw us into apathy. We must move forward fearlessly.

Every single moment of every single day we have choices. Choices in our lifestyle, how we live and the impact it has on the environment around us. We can change these choices to have less impact. We can choose not to engage in the consumerism. We can choose to make a much smaller footprint. We can choose to turn things around.

Remember how important you are in this. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Inspire others to do it too. Buy only what you actually need and use. Go for quality over quantity. Choose something gently used without all the packaging. Donate. Give experiences instead of stuff. Give of yourself instead of material items. Spend time instead of money. And teach those around you by example, encourage them to follow your lead.

Before it’s too late.

Daily Angel Oracle Card: Saille Willow, from the Celtic Tree Oracle, by Sharlyn Hidalgo, artwork by Jimmy Manton

Saille Willow:

“Northern Hemisphere Dates: January 24-Feb 20th
Southern Hemisphere Dates: July 24-Aug 20
Totems: Bee (shared with Gorse, Heather, and Honeysuckle), Dove
Deities/Guides: Brigit (the Maiden aspect of the Goddess)
Letter: S
Class: Peasant
4th Lunation
Celebration: Imbolc, February1/2 (August 1/2)”

Keywords: “The Feminine Principle, Cooperation, Fertility, Intuition, The Moon and Her Cycles, Water, Emotions, Creativity, Community.”

“The Saille Willow initiates in the fourth lunation of the year. This tree represents the feminine principle and is associated with the celebration of Imbolc and Candlemas. This is a period of the quickening of the creative principle and the element of fire. We celebrate the magic that sparks the seed deep within the earth to begin to grow. The teaching of this is about enriching our community, cooperating with others, and learning to share power and resources with others. Willow teaches us to embrace our emotions and to express them. She encourages peace and harmony with others and with the natural world. She supports our dream life. Many wonderful plans and ideas come to us in this way. The ogham for this tree is Saille and the letter is S.”

Saille Willow In A Reading: “When you draw Willow, you can expect a meeting with the mysteries, the power of enchantment, magic and the moon. You can expect to have a psychic or intuitive encounter. Dreams and synchronicities are important. Pay attention to your own intuition. Meditation and contemplation time is important. Make some personal time for quiet reflection. As yourself where you are in the cycle of things. If you are wondering about a creative endeavour, you can expect a visitation from the muse.

You may also feel moodier than usual. If this is an emotional time, remember that it is ok to cry. Tears are healing; they release pent up feelings. Allow even negative feelings to arise. Express them and let them go, as they have no power over you unless you ignore them or stifle them.

Willow has everything to do with the feminine energy. This card may come up when you are going through issues that have to do with sexuality, fertility, reproduction, birthing, or mothering. You may need the physical support of friends, family, and your community as you move through these issues in your life. Be willing to ask for help. If you are going through grief or loss associated with these themes, Willow offers you healing.

Willow encourages you to do something creative. Draw, sing, dance, or write a poem. Leave the critical part of your thinking aside, and just allow the expression. Enjoy it. She asks you to partake in your community, too, to be receptive, to participate in a cooperative endeavor. Also, women are important to your process, now. Do not forget to support your own feminine side, as well.”

As Challenger: “You may not be aware of your underlying feelings and emotions, or you may be afraid of your feelings and be repressing them or cutting yourself off from them. If this is the case, it is time to allow yourself to feel.

On the other hand, perhaps you give your power over to your emotions, and now they are running your life. If so, it is time to get back int he driver’s seat. If you continue to experience difficult emotions over a long period of time, investigate your thinking and weed out thoughts and beliefs that are driving those feelings. It may also be time to seek help.

When Saille Willow appears as challenger, you may not be receiving the benefits of your relationships with others and your community. Perhaps you are feeling alone and isolated. It may be hard to find any sense of peace within your current experience. You may be dealing with anger, fear, or loss. Grief may have its hold on you. It is time to talk to a trusted friend or counselor. It is time to set your mind to creating honey in your life and attracting help and love.

You may also have a deep soul need for the quiet and contemplation in which you can find the reassurance, comfort, and nurturance that the Divine Feminine and the Great Goddess can provide. It is possible that you are out of spiritual balance. Turn to your feminine side, to your dreams, and visions.”

Message: “I am the majestic Saille Willow. I am a tree that supports you in honouring your feelings. When you are having an emotional moment, be kind to yourself. Treat all of your emotions with kindness. Once they have your attention, they will diminish. That is all that they want. Your unconditional love and attention is everything. In this way, you are acting like the perfect mother – to yourself. The feminine principle is about love, kindness, care, appreciation and calming attention.

I represent the Great Mother of all, and I send my healing love. I am here to hug and to hold you. You can seek comfort in my great arms. I am an umbrella of love and protection. You are a child of the vast universe, and you are precious. I am here to reassure you that all is well and that all is returning to balance. Forgive yourself and allow healing to take place. In time, you can lay down your grievances and forgive others. All acts of forgiveness are really for your own healing.”*

 ~ By Sharlyn Hidalgo

Emotions are coming to a crescendo and will only continue to rise as we get closer to the lunar events of tomorrow. Super! Blue! Full! Lunar Eclipse! Like seriously people, things are getting a little crazy!

Let your own emotions run through you without getting all caught up in them. Acknowledge them, see them, feel them, let them go. Bless and release. Don’t deny; don’t stuff them down, that never works, they will pop up when you least expect them and possibly manifest physically… nobody wants that. They must be honoured and understood, but not wallowed in. Let the tears flow. Laugh out loud. Breathe deeply and reconnect yourself often. Stay hydrated and grounded. Do your best and don’t beat yourself up.

We don’t like feeling emotional pain. We will usually do quite literally anything to avoid it at all costs. We distract ourselves. We ignore. We make up stories, justifications, illusions. Then we buy into them and pack them around with us for extended periods of time… lifetimes sometimes.

Take this chance to let it go. Be it. Feel it. Let it go.

The tides are highest highs and lowest lows. Our emotions follow suit. Don’t take things too personally. Allow those around you to experience their own emotional upheavals without attaching a story about you to them. Be there as support without taking it all on. Do not play the victim or the rescuer. Just be there. Honest, raw, authentic.

Things will level out a bit after this, but you have to climb that mountain to get the spectacular view.

Keep climbing you aren’t quite there.

Mani, from the Viking Oracle, by Stacey Demarco, artwork by Jimmy Manton

Daily Angel Oracle Card: Mani, from the Viking Oracle, by Stacey Demarco, artwork by Jimmy Manton

Mani: “Time is precious. Be grateful for each passing minute. Using time well is a virtue. Be mindful of how you use your time – which may mean doing very little, if that is of benefit.”

“A circle
Within a circle,
The whirling wheel.
By nine times three,
I measure my life,
I gather my magic,
I shine my light,
Waiting for Fenrir
To open his jaws.”

“Mani” is both one name for the moon as well as the name of a god within the Norse cosmos closely connected with the moon. In the Poetic Edda, it was told that Mani was the brother of the goddess Sol (the sun) and was fathered by Mundilferi (time). It is unusual in any mythos for the moon to have a masculine association. With Mani, we may have the origins of the man in the moon. Both Sol and Mani were seen to circle the earth each day in a chariot.”

‘Mundilferi is he who begat the moon,
And fathered the flaming sun;
The round of heaven each day, they run,
To tell the time for men.’

“The Vikings told time by the moon, not the sun. The twenty-eight day moon cycle was a reliable timekeeper. Also, being seafarers, they were aware of connection between the cycles of the moon and the tides – especially around peak tides of the full moon. Incredibly competent navigators, they relied on the position of the moon, as well as the planets and stars to guide them on their voyages.

In the Eddic poem ‘Grimnismal’, when Thor asked the dwarf Alviss about the names for the moon on the other worlds, Alviss said Mani is called the ‘moon’ by mankind; ‘the whirling wheel’ within Hel; ‘fiery one’ by the gods, ‘the hastener’ by the giants; ‘the shiner’ by the dwarves; and ‘the counter of years’ by the elves. Mani, as a creation of the Aesir (gods) was consumed by the wolf Fenrir at Ragnarok (the end of the world cycle).

Within the Norse tradition, Mani is a keeper of time and cycles. When we receive this card, we are reminded that time waits for not one and that time is precious. To the Vikings, whose life expectancy was so much shorter than ours, to waste time was to waste life.”*

~By Stacey Demarco

Using time wisely is a valuable skill. We don’t realize until later in life that one of our most precious resources is time itself. We don’t realize how much we waste of it, and we don’t realize when we are wasting it how quickly it goes… never to be replaced in this lifetime.

Do you use your time wisely? Do you use it with mindfulness and focused intention? Do you allow for rest and recovery, nurturing of the body, mind and spirit? Do you value yourself and your time? Do you realize that the most valuable gift you can give your loved ones is quality time together?

Of course one of the most dangerous of time wasters these days is technology when not monitored. Social media, television, video games to name a few. Binge watching episode after episode of whatever catches your fancy. Escapism at it’s best. Comparing ourselves to others. Worrying that we may not measure up. Jealousy, envy, despair. Media, the news, the fear mongering. Politics… yikes worse than a horror movie these days.

Remember to unplug. Remember to be grateful for what you have. Remember not to get all caught up in other people’s lives. Or fantasy.

Get outside. Spend some time in silence every day; meditation or contemplation. Self heal. Cultivate self love. Reconnect to your loved ones.. eye to eye, heart to heart. Listening, laughing, removing the distractions for a time and just being. Intimacy. Fresh air. Exercise.

Live life organically, not vicariously.

Fehu, from the Viking Oracle, by Stacey Demarco, artwork by Jimmy Manton

Daily Angel Oracle Card: Fehu, from the Viking Oracle, by Stacey Demarco, artwork by Jimmy Manton

Fehu: “The skills and gifts you have within you are your greatest treasure. They will never be stolen. Pay attention to the way you view the links between personal power and wealth. Prosperity needs to be developed over time – and then shared.”

“I am the way to wealth,
The power of having and moving,
The freedom of having enough,
With more to come.
I carry my treasure.
Within me is all.
I am Fehu.”

“Fehu (pronounced as ‘fay-who’) is one of the runes of the Elder Futark. It literally means ‘cattle’ and the symbol itself resembles the horns on cattle.

The Vikings, who travelled quite a bit, had to carry portable forms of wealth with them as they traded or explored. Their wealth, therefore, was not measured just in gold. Cattle and other livestock, for instance, represented a type of mobile wealth – wealth that was literally ‘on the hoof’, so this rune is an apt symbol for the idea of prosperity within the Viking paradigm.

The Vikings also relied upon the development of a variety of skills. Boat builders, carpenters, stone masons, weapon makers, hunters, weavers, story tellers, artists – whatever your skill, when you developed it with excellence, it was seen as a valuable treasure. You could take this portable form of prosperity with you wherever you went, and your craft, unlike gold or jewels, could never be stolen.”

Fehu as Challenger: “You do not know it all. More education or skill in a matter is needed. There may be a threat to your prosperity, so take heed. Although it is said that everyone has their price, you are being warned that not everyone can be bought. If you are thinking of taking a risk, be forewarned. Your luck with money has run out.”

Element: “Earth.”

~ By Stacey Demarco

Discernment and keen judgment are key right now. You have all you need within you in order to succeed, but you must be very clear on what it is that you are creating. Do not give your power away to another. Do not be impulsive, and be sure you don’t get sucked in by ‘get rich quick schemes’ and do not compromise your integrity or your morals in order to please others.

Use your skills and talents. Do your research. Make a plan of action and stick to it. Make sure you know your end goal and stay the course for you are going to get where you need to go by trusting your own instincts and intuition. Do not let fear get in the way of your progress and success.

If you have an idea, keep it to yourself until you have fully developed it. Be very discerning when looking at who to trust with your passion, your ambition and your inspiration. There is no need to be paranoid! Just be smart. Know that what you set your mind to is absolutely possible for you, but that others may either side track you or try to make your ideas their own. Trust in your intuition and move slowly when you are involving others in your plan, knowing that you do not actually ‘need’ anyone else’s opinion or advice at this time.

This is your chance to create something big, something new and something very close to your heart. Trust that all you need you have access to, and that the Universe will support you all the way. Take your time to create something strong and stable, and then, when you are truly ready, you can share it with the world.

Beith Birch

Published December 28, 2017 by Dee ~ Archangel Oracle

Beith Birch, from the Celtic Tree Oracle, by Sharlyn Hidalgo, artwork by Jimmy Manton

Daily Angel Oracle Card: Beith Birch, from the Celtic Tree Oracle, by Sharlyn Hidalgo, artwork by Jimmy Manton

Beith Birch:
“Northern Hemisphere Dates: November 1-28 (Southern Hemisphere Dates: May 1-28)
Totems: Snake, Phoenix, Eagle
Deities/Guides: Macha, Morgan, Cerridwen, and Hecate (The Crone aspect of the Goddess)
Letter: B
Class: Peasant
1st Lunation
Celebration: Celtic New Year, November 1 (May 1)”

Keywords: “Endings and new beginnings, cleaning and purification, releasing old patterns, overcoming difficulties, shedding the old, new growth and renewal, pliance in the peaceful resolution of conflict, higher perspective, return to innocence.”

“The Beith Birch initiates the first lunation. At this time of year, as we prepare for winter and seek deep transformation, we honour the crone aspect of the Goddess. Although crones are harbingers of death, they are also responsible for birth and new life. They are our midwives. After a period of emptying and releasing old patterns, acknowledging disappointments and regrets and embracing our achievements, we listen carefully to the quiet voice within and set our intentions for the year to come. In this way, we plant the seeds of future possibilities and establish the foundation for the year ahead, which heralds in what we call the dark half of the year, when the new gestates in the dark. Birch will also help in the peaceful resolution of conflict. She provides a higher perspective and spiritual understanding. She will return you to a state of innocence and non-judgment. The ogham for this tree is Beith and the letter B.

Beith Birch In A Reading: “When you draw the Birch card, you can expect new beginnings. However, in order to move ahead, you may have to tie up loose ends and let go of what is no longer needed. Therefore, Beith Birch also stands for cleansing and purification. Old patterns are released, and you can shed unhelpful influences, now, just like this tree sheds its bark. This is a time for forgiveness of yourself and others.

There is the promise of new starts, renewal, and new life. This is the time to set new intentions, now that you have let go of last year’s energies. Sit quietly so that you can listen deeply. From your heart, begin to formulate new plans and intentions. This is the time to decide what seeds you will plant and cultivate for the year ahead.

Birch also offers healing, peace, and resolution in times of conflict. Her branches are pliant and supple. Take a Birch leaf or twig with you – or imagine her in your mind’s eye – when you must resolve a conflict. She brings in the power of peaceful reconciliation.

Take a look at your new year with a higher perspective. Allow your higher self to inform you. Breathe in her deepest message, which is love and light. Let Birch’s heart-shaped leaves remind you that your true wisdom comes from the heart. Allow yourself to look at your life and the world around you with new eyes. Lay aside your judgments and return to a state of innocence.”

As Challenger: “Perhaps you are reluctant to let go of that which is keeping you from moving forward – afraid to release old patterns and unhelpful influences. You may not be ready to forgive or to deal with conflicts. Perhaps you are hanging onto the old, and it is not serving you. Think about where you are not allowing your life to flow naturally. What are you holding on to so tightly that nothing can change? You are encouraged to let go so that you can move forward.

Set you house in order. This is probably not the best moment to begin something new, as you have work to do to prepare first. When your thoughts and feelings are aligned with your highest good, then you will be able to clear the way and begin.

If you find that you are overly judgmental, now is the time to let such habits of thought go. Judgment only creates separation, and in truth there can be no separation. Make an effort to return to innocence and to your connection to all that is. Play a game, take a run, do something fun to remind you what it feels like to be a child again. From this place, you can let go of your resistance and move into your heart space.”

Message: “I am the beautiful Birch tree. I wear bright gold and red leaves in the autumn. My branches grow down long and slender; my many heart shaped leaves dance and whisper in the wind. Close your eyes and listen to the sounds of my leaves rustling in the autumn winds. Listen to my encouraging messages.

See how I love to grow tall and straight? Look up and see the sky. Look all the way to the tip of my highest branches. Look to the light, and as you do so, allow yourself to lighten up. Imagine you are the eagle landing on my highest branch. Seek a higher perspective. You can see the whole picture – the exact opposite of not seeing the forest for the trees! What do you notice?

I encourage you to open your eyes and allow your innocence to come forward. Let go of any need for separation and judgment. Allow yourself to remember how it feels to enjoy yourself and feel as one with everything and everyone. Come into my field, my aura, and we will start over from this moment. We will begin a whole new story that is set in this very moment, where everything is already given. Keep facing the light and allow me to bring you the awareness of my higher perspective.”*

~ By Sharlyn Hidalgo

Every single thought we have is tainted by some sort of belief system we have adopted around it, particularly thoughts about ourselves, our value and our capabilities. We see things through a lens particular to us; our experiences, our hurts, our victories and our failures. We take our lives and we live it according to the thoughts, beliefs, feelings, habits and patterns that we are used to. That feel comfortable to us.

Maybe they are inherited culturally. Maybe we get them from society. From family. A teacher, a relative, a caregiver, a neighbour. Role models, rock stars, celebrities; people we look up to. Every single person we have interactions with leaves an imprint. It could be just a trace, or it could be something much larger that we hold on to, carry with us for the long term.

But how can we create something brand new if we can only perceive what is possible through our narrow lens? What if we were to take a really good long look at the lens itself and see if we have perhaps outgrown it? What if we realized we were looking through someone else’s lens this whole time? What if we didn’t even need a lens?

Then what would be possible?

There are new beginnings coming, that is no surprise. The new year is within reach. A brand new year to play with, to create with, to dream into being.

But how will you create it? What will hold you back from creating something more amazing than you have ever created before? What could you release so that you could do things in a completely new way?

Take some time to think outside the box. Dream a whole lot bigger than you usually do. Refuse to look through that old lens.

Dagaz: “Know that you are protected. Only positive energy flows your way. Expressing daily gratitude will create profound change. Have hope! Happiness is within your grasp – the time for sorrow is over. Grief is necessary, but soon it will diminish. Seek balance in all things.”

“The darkness is complete,
Until it is not.
The black is no longer black,
But blue, and then
Purple, then streaked
With pink,
Orange, yellow, Gold.
Warmth, hope,
All is changed.
I am Dagaz.”

“Dagaz, (pronounced, ‘daa-gahz’) is a rune in the Elder Futark that says good things have arrived or are coming soon. It is the rune of the miracle of the dawn, the coming of the day, the first rays of sunlight after a frightening storm. It is the awakening of hope when it seemed that hope was gone. It is the first gentle happiness after a period of grieving, the understanding that we can choose pleasure after a period of sacrifice. It is the relief after much hard work.

Dagaz is a protective force too. It enhances happiness by warding off anything that may challenge that happy state. It is useful in dispelling depression, inducing hope and bringing forth a balanced mind and body. Dagaz was painted in yellow on the doorways of halls, where happy events were held, ensuring not only that good times would be had, but that the people within would be protected from harm wile enjoying themselves.”

As Challenger: “Insomnia or restless sleep. Depression. Hopelessness and victim mentality. Stuck in the old ways of thinking. Refusing to be grateful for simple things. Refusing to be happy because we fear something may go wrong.”

Element: “Fire”*

Hmmm, I’m thinking I need this rune. I could paint it in yellow on my doorways. Yes, why not do that? I love the idea of a protective force, enhancing happiness and warding off what may challenge that happiness for me. I love the idea of awakening hope where once hope seemed beyond reach. I wan to choose pleasure after a period of stress, exhaustion and overwhelm. Bring it on.

It’s too easy to slide into victim mentality; to feel like life is happening ‘to’ us, that we have no say in it. To become unwilling participants in a game where the odds feel stacked against us. It’s easy to become a martyr, believing that we must sacrifice our dreams to create happiness for anyone and everyone in our lives despite ourselves.

We need to let that mentality go. And find a way to create something better. Stronger. More suited to the reality we desire to create.

What else is possible here?

There is no such thing as coincidence. Only synchronicity. There is no such thing as jinxing ourselves. It is safe to dream big and act on it. All those limiting belief systems just hold us back from what is ours, not the other way round. And yes, you deserve to be happy.

Expect a turn of events. Expect happiness. Intend it. Find it and hold onto it. Radiate it out into the world.
